Neshanic Station resident joins Alternatives, Inc. board of trustees
Tulsi R. Maharjan of Neshanic Station has been appointed to the board of trustees of Alternatives, Inc., a regional non-profit social service agency for people with a wide range of special needs.
Maharjan is a legislative aide to Assemblyman Peter Biondi, R-Hillsborough, and former director of government relations at Raritan Valley Community College, located in North Branch.
During his 21-year career at the college, Maharjan developed and initiated many local, state and national programs in collaboration with community organizations to enhance college visibility and resources. He also served as the director of the Center for International Business and Education and director of the Institute for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, both at the college. Prior to joining Raritan Valley, Maharjan was coordinator for the Center for International Education at Middlesex County College.
"Tulsi has been an active leader in our community for many years and we are fortunate to have his expertise on our Board," said Alternatives' President Nancy Good. "Tulsi's extensive experience in community affairs, development and government relations will be an invaluable asset to Alternatives."
Based in Raritan, Alternatives provides residential, employment, and support services to individuals with developmental disabilities, mental illness and other special needs. The agency provides services in Somerset, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Monmouth and Warren counties.
Maharjan has received many honors over the years including the Somerset County YMCA Community Service Award, Somerset County Cultural Diversity Coalition Outstanding Service Award, Rotary International Service Above Self Award and the America-Nepal Friendship Society of New York Community Leadership Award. Additionally, he is currently the Chairman of the Somerset County Cultural Diversity Coalition and International Service Director of Rotary District 7510.
Maharjan received a doctoral degree in Educational Administration and an Master's degree in International Development, both from The American University in Washington, D.C. He received a bachelor's degree in Economics from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
